v1.14 - Monsters, Music and Reusability
Hello there! :)
A new update to Lost For Swords just dropped, with lots of cool changes and additions:
-
Sticky is now called Reusable… and it’s limited! Reusable Cards drop after the number of uses depicted on the card. This is a big design change that I think overall has more advantages than disadvantages.
Advantages:
- “end-game” of each room is more clear, less drawn out: I found that the “late-game” of a room was often tedious when you wanted to be as efficient as possible. Lots of enemy movement manipulation tactics over many turns, just to get in another hit. With the reduced re-usability, this should not be as much of a factor anymore.
- Limiting the sticky weapons adds an additional layer of consideration for players.
- +Weapon Attack cards can be balanced better. Before I had a hard time offering +Attack effects, because they were incredibly strong on the sticky weapons. Now the design space is much better.
- multiple auto-equip weapons does not block each other. Auto-Equip was also hard to design around, because a sticky+auto-equip weapon would effectively block the other auto-equip weapons below it in the stack.
- Reusable Keyword can be used more often. I can now design more cards that have the reusable keyword, as it is much more granular than the all-or-nothing sticky.
- Auras and Trinkets can affect Reusable weapons, which allows me additional avenues for designing these card types.
Disadvantages:- players can soft-lock themselves more easily. The main reason for giving players an infinitely reusable weapon was to prevent them from being soft-locked in a room, unable to reach the exit. With the change this can now happen. But I found that it’s not a big of a problem as I had anticipated. Even without a weapon, due to Monster movement it’s often still possible to reach the door. I can’t rule out soft-locking 100%, but I think it happens rarely enough.
New Monster: Grunts
- High health, low attack
- attack increases whenever you attack it directly
- sprinkled throughout Floors
Completely new music!
- fits a lot better
Visually improved Spells, Auras and Sins
-
Better looking hurt and defeat effects: cards wiggle when hurt
-
Better animations for hero attacks, especially slow weapons and when effects trigger while attacking
-
lots of new sound effects
-
Post processing effect. Still not sure if I like it, but wanted to try it out
-
Renamed Channelled to Countdown: name simply fits better.
-
new Cards:
- Poison Bow
- Bow Artisan
- Repossession
- Dazzling Metal
As always, thanks for reading and see you at the next patch! :)
Bye! (ʘ‿ʘ)╯
